MALTING

When InVivo merged with Soufflet Group in December 2021, it stated its ambition to become the world's leading malt producer. By finalizing the acquisition of United Malt Group (UMG) in November 2023, and increasing its production capacity by more than 50%, Malteries Soufflet (part of InVivo Group) is accelerating its growth and meeting this objective.

Malteries Soufflet has been involved in the agro-ecological transition for over a decade, through its investment choices and operations. The expertise of its teams enables it to develop sustainable, local, low-carbon, positive-impact barley-malt production chains throughout the world, and to offer products that meet the most demanding specifications and the needs of each of its customers – major brewers, craft brewers, distillers and ingredient producers. By building on the current strong growth of the international malt market, particularly in Africa, Asia and South America, and by strengthening its presence in high value-added segments, Malteries Soufflet intends to consolidate its position as world leader in the sector.

Strategic objectives:

  1. Be part of an upstream/downstream approach, in connection with the group's other businesses.
  2. Be a leading partner in the various malt value-added segments, including craft brewers.
  3. Strengthen innovation to support the energy transition.
  4. Accelerate the co-construction of a range of sustainable products and services with its partners.

Means of action:

  1. Maximize the industrial performance of production sites to guarantee customer supply and continue to offer premium malts.
  2. Strengthen brewing expertise in the 20 countries of operation.
  3. Maintain an agile, responsive organization to meet customer expectations.
  4. Pursue investment projects targeting renewable energies, reduced water consumption and a smaller carbon footprint.

Performance levers:

  1. Implement a major transformation program to enhance commercial and industrial efficiency.
  2. Optimize supply chain and raw materials purchasing.
  3. Unite teams and attract the best talent by communicating an ambitious and original vision in the malt industry.
  4. Take advantage of Malteries Soufflet's unique positioning in the barley sector to generate value for all players, from farmers to customers.

Become the world's largest malt producer

In November 2023, Malteries Soufflet finalized the acquisition of United Malt Group, the world's fourth-largest malt producer. The aim of this merger is to create an international-scale platform combining the complementary assets of the two entities, both in terms of geographical presence and business sectors. The new entity will have a production capacity of 3.7 million tonnes of malt.

Towards carbon neutrality

The Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) site, inaugurated in 2022, produces zero-carbon malt in its transformation process using 100% hydroelectric energy. A world first in the malt industry, and a major step forward in Malteries Soufflet's drive towards carbon neutrality.
